Teaching Practice phase 2 ; Fifth week

From 13th onwards to 22nd December second terminal Examination were conducted. We had no exam duty thus we did our works during the exam time.The school was closed for Christmas Vacation and it will reopen on 1/01/2018.

First OBSERVATION by Sheenu Teacher

Today our optional teacher came for observing our classes and progress. I taught the lesson 'trophic level' in 8th standard B division. The content transaction was easy and done in efficent way, because they were familiar with the idea of food chain as well as food web.
The students were very cooperative and responsive throughout the class . Teacher gave some important advices regarding time managment. The major drawback in today's class was improper time managment, thus i can't gave an assignment regarding the learned content.

Teaching practice ; Fourth week

In this week, apart from the usual activity classes a roleplay was conducted for the lesson " Ebola Virus". Initially, I gave a detailed knowledge about Ebola disease. However the students surprised me. They played very well and each of them did their roles very well.
Our optional teacher also came for observing our class and she observed the classes oj Liji , Sanal and Me.

Teaching Practice : third week

When compare with previous days in boys school, i can manage the classrooms in a better way and i am happy for that. But still the problem is with time management. When i focus more on involving the whole class on the activities, there were a lag in time management

Most of us are very used to the sounds we hear in everyday life. Loud music, the television, people talking on their phone, the traffic and even pets barking in the middle of the night. All of these have become a part of the urban culture and rarely disturb us. By definition, noise pollution takes place when there is either excessive amount of noise or an unpleasant sound that causes temporary disruption in the natural balance. This definition is usually applicable to sounds or noises that are unnatural in either their volume or their production. Our environment is such that it has become difficult to escape noise.

 An awareness class regarding “Sound Pollution” was taken this week for the students by Rotary Club at Govt Model Boys High School, Thevally during the assembly . They provided a timetable card for all students which contains the importance to keep away from high decibel sounds.

Teaching practice : Second week

When compairing with the previous week i learned to maintain class discipline even better.But i am not familiar with the student' s behaviour individually yet know. I think i need more time for that.

In this week a, programme were conducted which was very fruitful for the students who are the asset our nation. "SAFE KOLLAM" is an awareness programme conducted by Lion's Club and Kollam Police together for the high school students.

The prime aim of the programme was to aware the adolescent group about drug abuse, sexual abuse and human trafficking. The programme was eye catching with a number of short films which created an interest among students.

TEACHING PRACTICE PHASE 2 : First week

Second phase of our teaching has been started on 13th November 2017 in Govt Model Boys High School , Kollam. Our team has 6 members among them three are from Natural Science including me . I was not much nervous and i had the confidence that gained from my first phase of teaching practice. But at the moment i entered in the classroom, i realized that, classroom management is very difficult in a boys school. I felt distracted and struggled hardly to direct the students energy in desired way. 

                                     I had felt stuck at an impasse on the challenge of how to handle these distractions in classroom. It has been  1 week since our teaching practice has been started and now, it feel that we had completed the adaptation stage and improved our skill  to manage the students energy in desired way. The students are very advanced with the usage of technology and at the same time technology has a dark side too. Thus i felt that, as a teacher i have to concentrate more on there moral, ethical as well as personal development too. Moreover, to realize the real fruit in this profession i need to go more.

Teaching Practice phase 1

Practice teaching is of paramount importance in the vocational training of student teachers. It is this immersion into the real world of school that prepares the student in making the transition from trainee to professional. 

                    I did the first phase of my practice in teaching at mulakadakam Govt HSS, West Kollam.I learned a lot about teaching after this practice. In my view, teaching is like a performing art. No amount of reading or attending workshops will prepare you for the challenge. You only get better with practice.

During my student teaching experience, I spent a lot of time preparing worked hard to research different ways to present the information for each lesson. I looked for activities that my students would enjoy, and I made sure that I had all of the materials and other things that I needed before class started. Even then, there were always things that would go wrong. Technology would fail. Students would complete activities quicker than planned. Or students would require much more time and explanation than expected.

As such, I realized that I needed to be prepared as much as possible, but, more importantly, I needed to prepare to be flexible. You never know what’s going to come up or what will catch the students’ attention. When creating lessons, remember that you need to be prepared for changes. Figure out alternative activities in order to help your day go as smoothly as possible and allow your students to gain the most from the lessons.

Student teaching was a great experience. It had its ups and downs, but I became a better teacher by working to make the most of my experience and looking for opportunities to learn.

Innovative work : Science Exhibition and Model Making

As an innovative work a science exhibition were conducted for 8th standard students with respect to the Unit " Life Mysteries in Little Chambers". Most of the students prepared models in relation with the chapter. To motivate them myself prepared  a model of plant cell and exhibited it along with their models. I prepared the model in the classroom before the exhibition and explained to the students how to make model by using very economic items
